“THE KILLER AND I”

The above was an unbelievable heading, repeated twice, on the NZ Herald website.

It reflects the fast declining standards in our newspapers, this a consequence of their collapsing readership, something I personally regret.

By the most extraordinary co-incident, after I had recovered my senses from the traumatising effect of this assault, I had resumed my perusal of a recently acquired, massive sized, nearly 700 pages tome containing all the cartoons The New Yorker had ever published. The very first one I looked at was for the 1960s decade.

It showed a goofy young bloke in his graduation gown and mortar board and holding his just awarded rolled up degree.

He is in a telephone box making a call. The caption reads “Hello it’s I speaking”.
