The most astute truth ever said about Christianity was uttered by the usually taciturn great 1930s-40s heavyweight champion, Joe Louis.
Joe commented, “Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die”.
He was right of course for if Christians really believed in the post-death tosh they preach about an eternal heavenly existence, they’d be eager to get there.
Note I refer to Christians and not “the religious” for Joe’s maxim certainly doesn’t apply to Muslims.
I’d wager the Gaza genocide has created many hundreds of thousands of young male Muslim fanatics, all eager to sacrifice their lives in return for killing Israelis.
In that respect, and to finish on a happy note, some years back our greatest ever cartoonist, Tom Scott, penned a marvelously funny cartoon on the promise made to Islamic fanatics of the heavenly paradise reward in return for sacrificing their lives, namely 60 virgins awaiting them in heaven.
Tom showed in the first sketch a Muslim fanatic exploding a bomb, then a massive explosion.
The final sketch showed the fanatic arriving in heaven, horror-struck as 60 elderly catholic nuns race towards him with outstretched arms.
In these troubled times we could certainly do with Tom’s observations to lighten our day.
