MYTHOLOGY FANATASIES

It’s sad to see Australian major sports events going the same way as New Zealand with nonsensical irrelevant tokenism re their indigenous race.

In New Zealand it’s the massively embarrassing haka, an aggressive war dance trotted out at every opportunity. Now following suit, major sporting fixtures in Australia are preceded by a platitudinous speech by a part aboriginal, accompanied by an appalling drone from the world’s least musical instrument, the bloody didgeridoo.

This woke tokenism is spreading rapidly in Australia. Consider this.

Recently work on an $18.7billion gas project, in a remote northern location, scheduled to power 8.5 million homes over the next 30 years, was stopped by the Federal Court. Why?

Because a part aboriginal women with that fine old aboriginal name of Raelene Cooper, complained that the drilling would upset so called Spirit Whales, these being mythical creatures according to indigenous legend.

Raelene gave evidence that according to fable, the spirit whales tell fish what to eat, when to mate and so on, and upsetting them would cause marine chaos.

The idiotic judge, while neither confirming or denying that spirit whales exist, ruled that Woodside, the huge mining corporation involved, must stop work and consider the “cultural harm” of proceeding. We in New Zealand know how that will be resolved, namely by money which will apparently appease the spirit whales.

But in laughing at this crap, we must remember that western society is equally guilty of exactly the same silliness, in our case of fictitious religious mythology, notably Christianity.

While its impact is fast diminishing, it still inhibits our lives in numerous ways with restraints on Sunday activities and so on. In short, for all the amazing technological advances of modern society, humanity is still bound up in primitive mythology that defies any rational explanation.

The rational explanation is actually that religion gives us a code of conduct. Of course intertwined with mumbo jumbo but nevertheless some guidance, a moral compass. But Spirit Whales and their like? Give me a break. What’s the Aussie for koha?

I’m sure the Spirit Whales provide some kind of code of conduct for the aborigines that believe in that codswallop, the same as a belief in taniwhas for maori and some mythical sky fairy provides for Christians (not enough space here to mention all the other mythical beings!).

But in this day and age, it behooves us to set aside the fairy stories and be more pragmatic and practical so we can solve the societal issues that plague us (some of which, of course, are instigated by belief in this kind of bullshit)

Nothing rational about it. Codes of conduct (or collective conscience if you like) comes from the free speech exchange of moral conversations (there’s some compelling research on this). Religions over the millennia, including Christianity, have worked pretty hard to shut free speech – and so the development of individual thought – down. Instead you are to think what they instruct you to think, and unsurprisingly this includes a lot of barmy stuff!

The haka should be the preserve of just two teams -the all blacks and the kiwi rugby league team. When a load of skinny white guys, like the hockey team or swimming team, perform the haka it just looks ridiculous.

And of course, the poor bloody New Zealand Taxpayer is yet again relied upon to pay for the return travel to Paris, along with all wages/expenses, for this pathetic and internationally embarrassing ” song and dance ” routine!

Precedent, facilitated by do gooders and bureaucrats who want an easy ride, has created this situation.

Politicians have no conviction anymore, and those that have i.e. Shipley etc, are no paying the price.

Another great depression might be the only thing that cleanses the system of useless governance…

This might help also

I’d like a world with more do gooders, and fewer do badders.

More easy rides, with the option of difficulty, for challenge and growth.

Finally a system cleansed by Great Thoughts and not Great Depression.

Depression sounds bleak. I’m not knocking Prozac, never needed or tried it, but give me clean air and slow walks in nature to uplift my mood.

It is indeed ridiculous, I am not Maori so why would I consider the embarrassing haka as representing me as a New Zealander ( not an “Aotearoan” which is presumably what the Maorification programme requires) .

Bloody ridiculous carry on! It reminds me of the South Island Hydro lakes & power stations a couple of years back requiring a new 30-year Resource Consent. Meridian go the thumbs up from DoC and the Iwi but then all went quiet. Two years went by without a murmur until hidden in the Meridian accounts was a cost of $285million for the consent. DoC’s accounted for $2.3million which seemed reasonable and yes, you guessed it; Ngai Tahu accounted for the balance over $280 MILLION – yes MILLIONS! Just what was the justification for this outlandish cost is beyond belief other tan pure greed. This cost will be settled by every New Zealander for many years to come.

Thank God I’m an atheist…

I’m annoyed that my insurance company still begins all correspondence to me with “kia ora” despite my request to be addressed in my own language which is English.

Think of the Universe, distance and time.

Consider the left are asking for apartheid, because ‘some groups’ got here (NZ) a few years before others.
… left, consisting large percentage ‘academia’, intelligentsia.
Go figure !

(…and yes, they are definitely out there just too far away to bother

Putins demise imminent SB.
Will not see October.
