OPTIMISM

Is there any limit to human optimism? I mention that first in respect of a new high-rise hotel currently off and on being constructed in a desolate site in Lower Hutt’s CBD. The hotel is reportedly targeting tourists.  So why would tourists go to Lower Hutt?

One reason is for a laugh, namely to see a magnificently ironic example of world class screaming bad taste, as per the photo below.

Capture

This is a small modern charcoal – coloured office building on the border of booming Petone.

The occupant, Moore Design, offers “architectural services,” this message alongside a shiny golden chrome entrance verandah fascia which conceivably might go down a treat in Ruatoria but is otherwise hardly likely to attract clients seeking good design.

Still, as the saying goes, there’s no accounting for taste.

design does not equal taste

Sir Bob. The wires will be running hot with retribution !!! ..ha ha very good….Oh and… “how dare you, i’m deeply “O”fended”.

Sort of agree, but growing up in Avalon and knowing the Hutt as I do, there’s more to see in Lower Hutt than ugly buildings. Lovely walk tracks, cafe scene, petone beach , etc etc One would hope the attraction is not the building, if so the Hutt tourism industry is doomed’

Does not quite have the impact of Innsbruck’ Golden Roof, and no marks for trying either.

Did they do work for terry serepisos?

We’re so glad you noticed our building Mr Jones – it’s hard to miss isn’t it?
Step inside and you’ll see we’ve created a warm and inviting space for our clients and a purpose built, inspiring environment for our team to work in.
You should have seen the property previously – a rundown old warehouse with an old shipping container plopped at the front and a yard full of rubbish – we know what we’d rather see.
Creating this amazing building has boosted our business no end, with many new clients coming on board because of it…….mainly in the commercial space!
So that your readers can enjoy our ‘charcoal box’, they might like to see this video showcasing it in all it’s glory………not just the snippet you’ve chosen to show.

You owe Sir Bob a bottle of plonk for the promo…

Best wishes and good luck to you Cassie Luke and Moore Design.

I take it as a compliment that you even noticed our building in the Hutt valley. I would have thought you would have supported ANY investment into commercial property in Lower Hutt I’m glad that it stuck out enough for you to actually pull over and take a photo thanks Mr Bob Jones
