The above photo shows Bill Thompson who came down from Levin to place free money bets with Dr Ian Coutts, the man who offered bets on Trump winning in a landslide.
Bill’s a smart fellow for upon joining the milling crowd, he spoke to happy punters who had already lodged gilt edge certainty bets and drew the obvious conclusion that such were their volume, Ian would never be able to pay up.
So he changed strategy and when his turn came he sold Ian the Auckland Harbour Bridge for $5,000.
Apparently Ian’s immediate reaction was to exclaim, “That’s a bargain” and he promptly wrote a cheque.
The photo shows Bill after he’d cashed it.
