LANGUAGE FADISM

Here’s another piece of news-media created language faddism of recent years.

When did you last read the word “photo”? It’s now unfashionable and God only knows why, has been pointlessly replaced by “image”.

The purpose of language is communication and the clearer it is, the better the comprehension.

“Image” however, is a retrograde step communication-wise, for it can embrace an illustration or a statue and other representations of an object or people.

On the other hand “photo” or “photograph” is explicit. Sadly and pointlessly, with the print media, it’s now obsolete.

Well, I guess the print media is almost obsolete as well so it does seem appropriate that they will go but photos will stay.
