My company owns 20 prime location Wellington CBD office buildings.
In Auckland it has nine, also in absolute prime locations, but larger, totalling almost the same rental areas.
Our total Council annual rates bill in Wellington is $8.3million. In Auckland it’s $2.4million.
So Aucklanders, moan about the non-stop rain but don’t grumble about your Council and mayor. You don’t know how lucky you are.

As someone living in the Hutt Valley my nightmare is being forcibly amalgamated with WCC and subjected to the Wellington loony tunes.
Yes….the rates liability in Wellington is almost the equivalent of owning leasehold property…and you wouldn’t want to go anywhere near owning third grade accommodation for that reason….
