STUFF “JOURNALISM” GRAMMAR

Under the ironic heading “Fast Facts” Stuff printed,

“Alamir Bakery, who has produced…”

No, no, no. “Which has produced…”

Reading that brought to mind my 2003 novel “True Facts” taking the mickey out of journalists, and before critics run to point out one cannot qualify a fact, read the book first in which this seeming anomaly is explained.

Just like the recent Herald atrocity where the the Police Minister ‘unveiled’ the new Police Commissioner, who proudly announced that he “was proud to lead the police”.

No mention as to what he had been veiled in. Chiffon, velvet, possum skins, or week old Herald newspapers would all have been useful perhaps. By using the past tense ‘was’ also indicated that his reign as Police Commissioner must have been the shortest on record. From unveiling to the end of the press conference – not much redundancy pay or holiday pay would have accrued. A well deserved saving for the taxpayers.

But it still doesn’t top Yale-educated J D Vance’s, “Me and Donald Trump thought……”

According to an adviser to Trump in his first term “alternative facts” are also true.
