JUDITH COLLINS NAIVETY

The recent fracas at Auckland’s Northern Club, involving Judge Emma Aitken, her medical specialist partner, and in a separate incident, barrister Michael Reed K.C, brought much delight to the media, so much so, Wellington’s Post for example, joyously front-paged it word for word, two days in a row.

That said, I was astonished by Attorney General Judith Collins reaction, specifically, this “very serious” matter, was “not what I expect from members of the judiciary”.

Anyone who’s been round the block re barristers and judges, could tell Judith outrageous behaviour by the legal profession is common-place, while Michael Reed’s affected pomposity has been a life-long short-coming, which is the key reason he’s held in disdain by his legal colleagues. Before shifting to Auckland from Wellington some years ago, Michael acted for me in many cases, so I know what I’m talking about.

Judith should ask her lawyer husband who will confirm what I’ve written below re the legal profession’s ribaldry. Alternatively, she could start reading newspapers as virtually every day there’s a story about a lawyer going off the rails in one way or another. The most common is having unauthorised dips into clients money held on trust, which is why I’ve argued for decades for law degrees to include units in prison library management, given so many end up there.

But the law practitioners are mere pikers compared to the medical profession, whose specialist forte is murdering their patients.

That’s a recurring practise down through the ages, recounted in numerous books.

The latest one has just been revealed in Germany and the investigators are suggesting the death toll may be as high as 40.

But in fairness, who can blame them? The problem for doctors is they make their career decision, of necessity when mere youths and only wake up to their appalling choice when it’s too late to do anything about it, thus murdering their patients is an understandable, indeed logical reaction.

Currently 60% of British GPs want out but are financially hamstrung. I don’t doubt that’s the situation everywhere else.

Lawyers and doctors going off the rails in one way or another, is so common-place I’m surprised the media bother reporting it.

What would be newsworthy is say an accountant running amok but alas, they lack the necessary verve and initiative.

Of all the professions the most immoral and dishonest by a country mile is journalism, furthermore as surveys constantly show, the public intuitively sense that.

I have some sympathy as the nature of their activity is essentially that of a spectator on life, thus the inevitable frustration of this bystander role leads to temptation into creativity and making it all up.

All of that said, anyone who’s lived long enough and dealt across the board activity-wise, would unhesitantly opt for the company of lawyers and journoes over all the other professions, unless they have a freakishly high boredom threshold.

Excellent swipe

When I read the headline about Judith Collins naivety I expected it to be about her initial press conference on the NZ naval vessel sinking in Samoa. In the same breath that she announced there would be a full enquiry, she virtually absolved the ‘hero’ commander of any responsibility. She went on to say, pushing all modesty aside, that the naval commander, like Judith herself, had been given the job on merit.

👍

😂🤣😅😆😁😁😄

On point.

I completely understand how most other solicitors view Michael Reed. I am viewed in the same way by a good chunk of others in my profession locally; because I call them out for the lies and deceit they advocate; for the enrichment of themselves and short term gains for speculators.

Thankfully, I have been successful enough to do a few other things for the next 30 years if I live as long as you Bob.

I was in a pre mediation meeting the other day, and suggested a pragmatic solution. The nett result was being excluded from the mediation with solicitors who couldn’t reach agreement. Surprise surprise…and all at the expense of our mutual client, who continues to be lead round the garden path.

I like you have a poor regard for a large number of professionals; most of which are useless . Most are parasites who live off self importance and trading intellectual property they gain from the ideas of their successful clients.

This largely explains why a lot of our public companies perform poorly. They are stacked with useless professionals, who have no or little operational experience in running businesses. They don’t call it the boys club for nothing.

With a large chunk of our MP’s failed solicitors, this also explains how poor successive government have been in managing this nation.

On that note, merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your fellow readers

But…is it causation or correlation? Are the lunatics becoming lawyers or vice versa?

Sir Bob,
Thank you for all your comments, I, at times feel that I am the only one who feels this way.
Your humour is great and often spot on.
Don’t stop if you don’t have to.
Again, thank you and all the best for 2025.
Leonard.

accountants and lawyers dodgy bunch of buggers, a fiend sold a motel, for a reason i don’t recollect, there was $50 K paid to the seller he didn’t need to pass onto the tax man.
the seller then wanted it back, a dispute ensued, his lawyer said don’t worry its an easy win,
months later my friend collected his cheque for $500.
where is my $50K asked my friend. ? and what’s this success fee?
because we got a successful outcome we charge a success fee said the lawyer (new Plymouth) But you said not to worry as its an easy win said my friend.

I’m an electrician said my friend, if you employed me to put in an additional light circuit, and i just happened to get it to work , i can charge a success fee.?
that’s not how it works said the New Plymouth lawyer…!!! bloody well is said my friend.

this isn’t the only tale i have of local lawyers, if theres money on the table, they will expense it out until there’s little or nothing left… any trade that has at its core the maxim
FOR HIM THAT BE DECIVED LET THEM. which comes from roman law and is taught in NZ law skools as THE TINKERBELL THEORY, “its true of you believe it”… treat them with the distain they deserve…
i spent an evening out and about in London with joey Powell, i met his peeps who i still have great affection for, they treated me with respect ( a kiwi kid straight off the banana boat and green as a bunch of zucchinis ) and dignity. (Joey Powell = Kray brothers) i trust them with my money and life before I’d trust an accountant and lawyer.. . police man , politician, etc…any govt actor…(person)
