D DAY

Today is Donald day, or will it be ultimately recorded as disaster day?

The world will watch on nervously, fingers crossed that Trump’s minders can restrain his simplistic declarations and pray they don’t impact their nations.

It appears that someone’s given him an atlas, thus his latest gem of adding Greenland to the USA, he plainly being unaware that it’s a self-governing part of Denmark.

His ignorance is spectacular and if I could trust an honest test, I’d happily bet a million dollars that he couldn’t point to say Belgium on a map.

He was substantially restrained in his first term, thanks largely to the limitations forced on him by the Covid epidemic. However, no-one knew him better than his senior colleagues from that term, namely his vice-President, senior office-holders and others, who to a man have all subsequently came out strongly against him.

One fascinating spectacle will be watching his relationship with Elon Musk, the supposed world’s richest man.

We can justifiably treat Musk with awe given his extraordinary diverse achievements but his alleged wealth is largely bullshit.

He’s up to his neck in debt and the self-assessed valuations of his various enterprises are outrageously over the top, based on ridiculous pie-in-the-sky future hoped earnings.

Trump is not only driven by ego but arguably more by an obsessive money passion. It’s no surprise that in league with Musk, they’ve created their own crypto currency as an escape route from their financial problems.

Nominally worthless, cryptos work entirely on the bigger fool principle to sustain them, but history shows that such popular mass speculations, ever since the Dutch tulip bulb first, ultimately, for simple mathematical reasons, must eventually crash.

On the positive side the next four years will provide wonderful entertainment as we watch the diverse madness of Trump’s constant whims unfold.

We can (hopefully) in New Zealand, remain immune from any damage that will arise, albeit not so America which will ultimately bear the brunt, should for example Trump’s preposterous import taxes come into play.

If only a sane left.
voilà tu l’as

Trump is a peace man. He had an excellent peace record in his first term with the Abrahams accord and no wars started, unlike most presidents before him, including Biden.

If Trump can also lead the USA economy back into prosperity, heal the social ills starting with the 2 genders and removing nasty illegal immigrants, that’s the least he can do.

This is all low hanging fruit and it’s a total disgrace we are globally in this mess. We have our own PM unable to deal to basic issues the voters put him into power to resolve. Hopefully Luxon may learn a thing or to from the changes about to take place in the USA. Peter G

Hilarious, just as I imagine you also believe that (1) trump-imposed tariffs will be collected from the exporter, for the benefit of the US Treasury; not the US importer, at the cost of the US consumer and (2) NC and LA County will be rebuilt by white American (alpha) males.

You forgot to mention ‘deal with the Jewish question’ in your brief hagiography. Trump is a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to humanity. Keep on drinking that Kool-Aid Peter.

Sadly, wherever politicians are concerned, every day is a potential disaster day. I cannot think of a politician (left, tight, centre) I would trust. I regard human survival as a miracle, no thanks to any politician.

America as i understand it was built by missfits, Rat bags and Renegades , who escaping the oilgarchal domination of europe felt they could now live as they choose, now, there is Trump who exlemplifes these characteristcs, doesnt fit the mould , theres nothing statesman like about him, and every one is upset.?
some thing very interresting is happening to the public mind, that guy who shot the insurance CEO, the then media tried to spin it , but he public didnt shift off the “he desreved it” sentiment,
put the two things together , some thing big is comming i can feel it in my waters…. i think were going to feel it too…

In Greek tragedy, excessive hubris leads to Nemesis. Hmm. History repeating itself, yet again? Nemesis, in this case, we hope, a downfall that isn’t shared across a whole nation.

Anne, I share your concern. Trump, with his narcissism and Musk, with his hubristic and cynical editing out of his nazi salutes, together have the potential to bring America to its knees.

The share market appears to have welcomed the new administration. They appear far better prepared than last time.

Exactly

The world should be relieved.
Apparently Trump is relying on God to assist his endeavors.
Nothing’s going to happen on that score!

The jury is out on Trumps presidency.

It would seem he may have learned abit from last time, and appointed people who deliver rather than career bureaucrats who only produce hot air.

Remember its the titanic, and it takes time to change direction..

He also abstains from drinking alcohol, as it is an obvious weakness in the family.

Actions always speak louder than words.

Oh, I agree. The relatively sane and competent Rubio, SoS, already knows trump’s an ‘absolute’ moron. It took his 2016 appointment, Rex Tillerson, several months to get there!

There is a structure called a Compact of Free Association (refer Wiki) which would be suitable for an arrangement between the US and Greenland.
It allows a relationship but also Independence.
The US has it with Micronesia, the Marshall Island and Palau.
It will be one of the options put to Puerto Rico in upcoming referendums about their future.

Thanks for that David, although I think Greenland is already ‘self-governing’. Greenlanders would be well-advised not to enter into any sort of relationship with a government of trump, who has a well-rehearsed propensity for stiffing his counterparties.

Trump is an egotistical twit but somehow more trustworthy than Biden who I see has now pardoned his son, a coke addict and junior mobster. He has now announced the US only has two genders, surely that is a positive start !

I’m not sure your view would be shared by trump’s many stiffed (former) banks, advisers, staff members, contractors and shareholders, including but not limited to those hundreds of ‘mom and pop’ Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc. shareholders who lost 90% of their investment.

And I see your comment pre-dated trump’s egregious pardoning of more than 1,500 convicted January 6th thugs. Oops!

    Pedro .
He pardoned his son because he knows Trump intends to use him as a scapegoat. Not because Hunter needs a ” free pass” but because Biden knows Trump well enough to know he will pursue him for revenge.

I suspect Trumps rise is anti woke more than anything, It could be that this could be the best thing to happen in years for the west democracy, Its going to be interesting but remember that the NZ media will not have good word for the USA as usual.

The address was dark, toxic, intimidating, and in the main, mendacious and hyperbolic. By way of example;

“It fails to protect our magnificent law-abiding American citizens, but provides sanctuary and protection for dangerous criminals, many from prisons and mental institutions that have illegally entered our country from all over the world.”

As a matter of interest, and purely as an aside, how many did they take from New Zealand?

Note: I won’t attribute the obvious grammatical blunder(s) to the trump speech-writer (was it the slovenly fascist, Miller?) but to the Washington Post’s fact-checking team. I can’t be fairer than that.

Sadly it won’t all be entertainment. A fair (and sobering) indication of what’s to come is President Biden deciding to protect not only the staff involved in the Jan 6th investigation, but extending this protection to their families as well.
Clearly those at the top understand exactly what kind of man Trump is.

Hi Bob I disagree the world will boom under Trump. Maybe no more wars he’s a deal maker business man as yourself.hell move on the pharmaceutical giants .he’s already removed America from the controls of the who pity the morrins here can’t do the same .

    Observant, Colin.

Confucius said, “he who embarks on a journey of revenge should first dig two graves.”

I’d be happy to dig Trump’s for him.

Bob never said the world will ‘boom under trump’. I suspect you MEANT to say, “Hi Bob, I disagree. The world will boom under Trump.” Yes?

He’s not a deal maker. He’s a grifter. Point to any business he has run successfully? He has a trail of bankruptcies and failing to pay contractors. His father left him a fortune and in fact, he is worth considerably less now than had he just left it in a fund linked to the stock exchange index. His cryptocurrency is there solely so he can take bribes more easily ( faster than sending an invoice for a stay in a trump Hotel) and literally everyone who works with him says he is dumb as dogshit. If you think he will ” move on big pharmaceutical ” then you clearly don’t understand his motives. He will take bribes from them to make sure he doesn’t.

The comment about Greenland is valid, but in all honesty I agree with essentially everything Trump has done so far. He should just forget about Greenland. I think the mainstream narrative about Trump being stupid has also run its course, and people have realized that the alternative is far worse.

I agree Sir Robert. Trump is incredibly thick. Mind you, so are most of his supporters. Having spent some time in the USA in the past 2 years, whenever I have encountered a Trump supporter, I find that not only are they not particularly bright but their ignorance of the greater world is staggering. Many would never have left the USA apart from perhaps a Caribbean cruise.
Trumps tariff plans hurt the lower strata of society the worst. Research indicates that for the average American their cost of living would increase by $3,000. Mind you most of those at the lower end probably voted for Trump. Just dumb!
