ON LANGUAGE AND OUR POLITICS

Yesterday I criticised Labour List MP Ginny Anderson for calling herself a socialist.

Specifically she was quoted in the give-away Hutt News commenting about the infantile graffiti attacks on her election billboards.

The reporter, Stuff’s Thomas Coughlan, of whom more later, wrote, “some of the slurs, however, Anderson is more proud of.”

JOHN REID GONE

One of our true cricket greats, all rounder John Reid, has died at 92, thus for once the old cliché that he had a good innings is true, both literally and chronologically.

WHO SHOULD BE THE NEXT US PRESIDENT?

In a perfect world that’s a no-brainer. Obviously Muni He would be the overwhelming choice of half the US population, regardless of eligibility.

Where’s bloody God when you need some divine intervention?

CONSPIRACY THEORIES

Conspiracy theories are part of human nature. The greatest and age-old is religion, that is the belief of an unseen super power controlling everything.

SOCIALISM

The meaning of the word “socialism” is not in dispute. The Oxford dictionary describes it as,

“A political and economic theory of social organisation which advocates that the community as a whole should own and control the means of production, capital and property. Also, a transitionary social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realisation of communism”.

Now it’s indisputable that that is very clear. Given that why do so many female Labour candidates brag that they’re socialists?
