The annual journalism awards were duly published in the Herald a week back, of necessity in tiny type. Why?
Because as everyone wins a prize, hundreds of names from across the country media were listed. Hence-forth they can describe themselves as the “award winning Bill Bloggs”.
It’s a sop for low incomes, poor public images and insofar as everyone’s a winner, their fear of legitimate competition.
On the plus side it’s also a wonderful source of amusement for everyone else in the genuinely competitive world.
