The Prime Minister has announced a long overdue no nonsense hard line on fighting crime.
He will certainly have public support.
But here’s one good move that I doubt has occurred to him and that’s to get more women judges.
The constant ludicrous home detention sentences dished out to criminals on the grounds of their hard, mostly maori upbringings, are largely the domain of male judges.
On my observation most woman judges are not so gullible and know, almost intuitively, the truth of the four centuries old maxim. “Spare the rod and spoil the child”.
The excuse of having experienced a rotten home life is in itself evidence of cause and effect logic re behaviour.
Thus, ensuring they have an even worse prison life will presumably see them do nothing to endure it again, or in other words re crime and punishment, make sure the punishment outweighs the crime.
The example of El Salvador is overwhelming evidence of this hard reality, common sense logic.
Hitherto a gang ridden hell-hole, now it’s one of the safest crime-free countries in the world, by the simple process of a no mercy approach to criminals.

Tucker Carlson recently interviewed the President of El Salvador. A most interesting and revealing interview.
But the lefties assure us such a commonsense won’t work ( disregarding the proof offered by El Salvador, Singapore and other no nonsense countries).
Something I learnt in the military many years ago (and presumably not know to the Justice Department) – “Discipline is based on fear of the consequences”.
Maybe we need a new Law that anyone with a long history of violent, criminal offending should not be allowed to be involved in bringing up children? In addition, we need a National Serious Violent Offender Register that mothers of young children, and Oranga Tamariki are required to consult, before any of these violent criminals are allowed to move in with any woman with young children. Just might be a wakeup call to solo mums, some of whom seem to have a fatal attraction to a really bad boy? I know, it will never happen: too politically incorrect: but don’t do this and a lot more babies will die. Maybe gang members and anyone else with a long career criminal record should never be allowed to care for any child? Allowing children to be brought up in our “Families of Crime” often sets them up for a life of poor mental, and physical health, poverty, an unhappy life, and a career in crime and a lot of imprisonment. Allowing them to do it is often blatant child abuse. Promoted and funded by our Governments.
Perhaps castrating those “with a long history of violent criminal offending” would go some way towards providing the solution you suggest.
No arguments here-but it needs to go hand in hand with a review of the Government’s approach to benefits, which seems to generate the feral communities to start with.
