We’re all (understandably) awash in media commentaries so I’ll refrain from comment until next week when the dust has settled a bit.

good idea ..as american politics goes, theres still the court case to decide whose actually president.
I see from this morning’s papers that Jack Smith is looking at winding down his work and file reports on the two prosecutions with the AG, who has indicated he will make them public. That’s bound to upset a few trump supporters.
You may be referring to the upcoming sentencing in state court on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment to an adult-film actress, one ‘Stormy’ Daniels. Trump’s team are endeavouring to delay the sentencing but I don’t see the point. It’s a conviction in a state court so there’s nothing trump can do about it, apart from appeal the sentencing, or appeal the decision itself, or attempt to move the case out of Merchan’s reach or appeal the SC immunity decision.
But at the end of the day, Judge Merchan is hardly going to incarcerate the poor darling and there doesn’t appear to be anything else out there that could deprive him of his liberty, and America of what Rex Tillerson (Trump’s first SOS) referred to as a [ ]moron.
This has to be the end of lefty wokery and climate-change agendas.
Agreed and a good thing too!
Well, not all ‘wokery’ surely, because that might eliminate opposition to social discrimination or injustice.
Grim reality.
Very wise. America was faced with two disgusting choices – an egomaniacal dirty old man and an inarticulate loony left woman with the obtuseness and instability of Tory Whanau. God help us.
Yes. I suspect that a great many Americans have voted against Harris rather than necessarily for Trump, just as they voted against Clinton in 2016.
Wouldn’t call Democrats left, they seem to be further right than our National parry.
Having spent a lot of time in America in the past two years it’s easy to be convinced that Trump wouldn’t win. That’s because I spent most of my time in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago – cities where most of the population are educated, smart, successful and switched on. They detest Trump as a crass, nasty bully.
However when I occasionally made a foray into Trump land e.g. Midwest I met many uneducated, half-witted and often slightly crazy people who really love their guns. You know then that Trump had a real chance. Never underestimate how many dumb Americans there are.
Frederick, might I suggest the public located is those larger cities (which you consider well educated), have been brainwashed by main stream media and university (which no longer teach facts but rather ideology) and peddle not much more than false narrative and half truths…
Economics (social science) is but one example which hardly touches on how much power multi national corporations hold over politicians; largely to keep the competition at bay and increase the cost of entry through regulation.
The fact of the matter is US (western) living standards have been eroding for decades; mostly through lack of competition facilitated by over regulation. Less regulation is what allowed the Asian countries to get ahead, rather than road cones every five minutes approach…
Big government is not what we need, but rather real work experience and common sense which the do good bureaucrats and politicians are devoid of. They are largely talkers, who have no understanding of what represents value; but are happy to spend whatever it takes to keep an easy life for themselves….
While Trump will no doubt maintain the status quo for the elite,
if his last presidential term is anything to go by, at least he is a doer…and not afraid to take out the corrupt bureaucrats…and there’s plenty of them…
The swamp needs draining…big time…
I read recently that less than 40% of Americans hold a valid passport and 15% of the population has never travelled outside of their home state. Factor into that stat the fact that almost certainly the majority of those you met on the west and east coasts DO hold a passport, the percentage in the Midwest would be significantly below 40%. That probably explains a lot.
Millions of educated Americans voted Trump
There is a lot of dust to settle in Phoenix, but looking out my window today, I see what looks like the continuation of a two party system, where both sides don’t get along.
Good thinking . It will be hard to get anything past the blubbering, whining and teeth gnashing by the lefty media
Much alike our election last year , it isn’t a matter of the opposition winning , as much as it is the incumbents losing the vote . If the Democrats had told Joe Biden in no uncertain terms to retire after one term , to allow them time for a primary race to find a suitable presidential nominee , they may have fared better against Trump . Kamala Harris simply wasn’t the right candidate .
I don’t think it would have made any difference. The Democrats took a knife to a gun fight believing that the election could be won on policy, candidates and suchlike. In fact the Democrats were facing the whole apparatus of the Billionaire class & Russian/Chinese state actors. They all worked out a while back that it is actually quite simple to subvert the USA democratic systems by handpicking a number of ultra right wing judges & creating chaos in just enough of the swing states. Why fight an expensive war in the Ukraine, when you can convince Elon Musk to give away a million dollars per day to buy electors etc etc
I agree with you Roger. Harris was not the perfect candidate and had the timing been different and but for the Gaza situation, the PA Governor Josh Shapiro would have fared much better.
Its a bit like NZ First here . A whole lot of people tired of what happened with vaccinations , woke politics, unchecked immigration etal , have found a person who articulates their feelings.
Perhaps the days of “be kind” have been relegated to the dustbin of history. I lived in the States once , the East and West coasts are similar to most western cities , middle America is like stepping back in time . Unsurprising they didn’t vote for Kamala , they wouldn’t have liked the crowd at her events that the media showed (if the same as we saw here).
I’m hoping he says the hostages in Gaza be released before he is inaugurated. That’d be nice for their families.
