REEFTON – THE NEW PARIS

In an at times ridiculously over the top article by an Annamarie Quill, the Stuff website recently waxed worshipfully about the virtues of the West Coast town of Reefton.

CAN WE BE SHOCKED ANYMORE BY THE NEWS?

Few would argue when I say we’re living in dangerous times thus it’s hard to imagine any news-item which would truly shock us, so I put the thinking cap on to think one up. Try this.

RACIST ADVERTISING

Over the last six months it’s become fashionable for our advertising agencies to use maoris in their television advertisements.

THE DEATH OF DEMOCRACY

Unmitigated tosh was talked by diverse commentators, mostly with a personal employment interest in the matter, with advice that TV3 is to close its spasmodic news service, plus the ending of some TVNZ shows such as “Fair Go”. The death of democracy was the ridiculous common theme.

GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT EXCESSES CONELAND

There’s no better example of an overstaffed government Department with time on its hands and thus becoming “creative”, than the Health and Safety mob and their ludicrous road cones excesses. Nowhere else in the world does this occur, nor was it ever deemed necessary in New Zealand hitherto.
