TEST VICTORY

The marvellous victory over the world number one side India was specially unique for one reason.

Not only did our splendid pace attack do all the damage, the same foursome then scored all the runs. That’s extraordinary.

Our top batsmen were simply woeful, only the openers Latham and Blundell doing their job.

For that reason comparisons with our golden era of the 1980s are misplaced. Be that as it may, once again test cricket proved itself as the most exciting and unpredictable of all sport.
