Reserve Bank Governor Adrian Orr has seemingly lived a very sheltered life. I say that as he was quoted in the media saying “there’s nothing more distressing than seeing a café serving hot coffee beside a bank whose ATM doesn’t work…”.
Nothing? That’s a truly astonishing assertion.
One wonders, would it be less distressing for Adrian if the café served only iced coffee rather than hot coffee even though their ATM isn’t working? Equally, would it be OK if the café was beside say a fish shop instead of a bank? And would it also be less mortifying if instead of a café there was a dress shop whose ATM wasn’t working?
Presumably Adrian doesn’t read the news if he thinks his café scenario is more distressing than the daily diet of horrors, be it the 50 odd million Syrian refugee deaths in Turkey or the Ukraine ghastliness, and so on.
